Trusted and Proven Benefits of Army Wool Blankets
What makes Army Wool Blankets so effective?
Army wool blankets have been a staple for United States military personnel from nearly the last 80 years. Wool has the tried-and-true versatility that no synthetic fiber has yet to achieve. With wool's unique ability to both absorb moisture, quality wool blankets can absorb up to 30% their only in water without feeling uncomfortably or wet. Even expensive "synthetic wool" blankets can only absorb about 5% of their weight in moisture before they begin to feel wet.
The United States Army favors genuine military issue wool blankets for their superior warmth, resistance to burning, and moisture barrier advantages. Natural wool blankets are harder to ignite with fire then cotton or synthetic equivalent blankets. Army wool blankets are designed to have a lower rate of flame spread, lower extent of heat release and a much less volatile combustion rate.

Unlike "synthetic wool" blankets that can become dangerous when exposed to fire, because trey can melt and give of toxic fumes, a natural Army Wool Blanket will be self insulating, and self extinguish in the event of fire. The fire resistance is due to the fact that wool forms a "char layer" once ignited that will generally protect the rest of the blanket from completely burning (not to mention the person wrapped up in the army wool jacket). Army wool blankets also have the benefit of being static resistant. This helps tremendously in warm dry environments where the danger of a static electricity spark can be a real concern.

You might think that with all of the technology and advanced materials accessible to the United States Army that they might offer their enlisted personnel some sort of high-tech, exotic blanket as a standard issue for their footlockers. Such is not the case, as there is no substitute the incredible versatility and overall utility that a genuine Army Wool Blanket provides. Army wool blankets are great for camping, outdoor events, tailgating parties, and general use around the home.
Style and Appearance of Army Wool Blankets
In their distinctive khaki and olive colors, these blankets are not designed to be fashionable, nor are they supposed to look "cool" by any means. Owning an army wool blanket will show friends and family around you that you take pride in in owning and using a quality wool blanket that is inspired by an important piece of equipment that perhaps every soldier comes to rely often.
There is something distinctly classic about an Army wool blanket and it's simple "U.S." imprinted insignia, that is commonly found on army wool blankets. Wrap yourself in genuine American military pride. Enjoy the simple, yet bold colors and design - it's always reassuring to buy a product that the United States Army puts their faith and trust in. An army wool blanket generally costs 2 to 3 times as much as typical synthetic blankets you might find in Target or Walmart, but there's no substitute for an army wool blanket and it's unparalleled history of providing warmth and protection to millions of American service people.
How to Maintain and Wash an Army Wool Blanket
Maintaining a Army will blanket is a little different than you might be used to with any old regular blanket. Since you're talking about real wool, you might want to pick up a box of mothballs. I know, most young folk's only experience mothballs might be from a steamer trunk in grandma's attic, and that strong whiff of mothballs you got when you opened the chest.
If you're storing your army wool blanket for extended period of time, throw a couple of mothballs inside the folded blanket before you stowe it away. Moths will love devouring an Army wool blanket that is not well defended. Once or twice a year, you should also give your army wool blanket a thorough brushing with a medium stiff wire bristled-brush. This serves to help the wool fibers last longer by combing them in one direction. If you don't have the luxury of taking your wool blanket for a dry cleaning, clean it in your washing machine by soaking it in cold water for 20 minutes before putting on a gentle, cold water wash cycle.
Use Only 1/3 to 1/2 the amount of soap you would normally use to wash a regular blanket or the equivalent amount of clothing. After the washing machine, put your army will blanket the dryer with no heat ( sometimes called the "air fluff" mode) for 20 minutes. Avoid using any fabric softening dryer sheets, as these can lessen the moisture absorbing effectiveness of the natural wool fibers. Your army will blanket will still be damp after 20 minutes in the cool air dryer, at which point he'll take it out and put it on a clothesline, or drape it over something like a fence until it's fully dry to the touch.
These steps may seem a little tedious and perhaps redundant, but with a bit of extra effort, your army will blanket can quite literally last you a lifetime - something that usually can't be said about your everyday el cheapo blanket.

Yo! Roger Here... I hope you find my army wool blanket website informative and helpful. I am a veteran of the Unites States Marines Corp, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge of Military equipment, especially Army-Navy surplus goods. Due to injuries received in a propane explosion in 1993, I am not able to work at my trained profession - HVAC and Plumbing, so I help support my family through the small commissions I receive when my guests buy products from one of my 14 websites. May God Bless You and Your Family - Respectfully Yours, Roger
